Thabor Park and its botanical garden
Laid out in the 19th century on the former orchard of the monks of Saint-Melaine, Thabor Park gathers a French-style garden, an English-style garden and a remarkable botanical collection. The spring rose beds, the bandstands and the aviary make this central haven an ideal setting for a first date. You sit down, you lose yourself, you linger, often longer than planned.
Along the Vilaine
The Vilaine flows through the centre and offers lovely walks on both sides. The Mail François-Mitterrand continues the western quays, while the Mail locks mark the start of the Ille-et-Rance Canal. You cycle, you jog, you stroll, you share a late-afternoon coffee on a terrace. An unpretentious date, often the gentlest way to get to know each other.
The Prairies Saint-Martin, the wild side
North of the station, the Prairies Saint-Martin form a surprising urban nature park: allotments, reed beds, ponds and wooden paths line the canal. The place breathes, especially in the blue hours of evening. For the more sporty, the Ille-et-Rance Canal opens the way to Betton and beyond. On Lyad, members from Rennes share their favourite spots: it is up to you to pick someone to explore them with.
